Original Items: Only One Set Available. This very USN WWII uniform set is featured on pages 87-88 in the book U.S. Navy Uniforms in World War II Series: U. S. Naval Amphibious Forces, Volume 3 by Jeff Warner. In fact this set was purchased by IMA from the estate of Mr. Warner along with much of his personal collection.

This coxswain is wearing Army herringbone coveralls with an Army wet weather parka. Note the black metal ratchet clip closures below the neck opening. Per general order, the front and back of his outerwear is marked "USN" in large white letters and his helmet is painted with a gray band. Waterproof arctic overshoes are also worn with an inflatable life belt and M-5 gas mask in an M-7 rubberized bag. Original photographs indicate that little standardization was enforced for the clothing and equipment of Navy amphibious personnel. This accounted for a nearly endless combination of Army and Navy outerwear with almost no two Navy men outfitted the same. The back of the Army parka is marked in large letters "USN". The general order stipulated that these letters were to be three inches in height, however, most were applied freehand and many were considerably larger than three inches, as seen here. (J. Warner)
